HOW TO APPLY

The Canadian Hospitality Foundation (CHF) has streamlined its scholarship application process to make it easy research CHF scholarship opportunities and apply.

Step 1:

  • Visit the Scholarships page on this website to view Current Scholarship Opportunities.
  • Browse the list of Current Scholarship Opportunities or use the filters to select opportunities for specific fields of study, provinces or eligibility criteria. Each scholarship opportunity will include a link to view/download the application form directly, or complete it via an online application portal.

Step 2:

Prepare Your Application Package

Follow the instructions for your selected scholarship opportunity to digitally submit the following documents:

  • Fill out all required fields and submit online using our intuitive application form.
  • Upload a PDF or Word document highlighting your work and personal achievements and experience.
  • Request an electronic transcript directly from your institution and upload to the portal.
  • Submit one (1) signed letter from a current faculty member or school administrator.
  • Submit one (1) signed letter from a past or current employer (volunteer references are also accepted).
  • Letters should be submitted digitally, either directly from the reference or uploaded as PDFs with digital signatures.
  • Upload a professional-style, head-and-shoulders photo of yourself in a digital format (JPEG or PNG, minimum resolution of 300 dpi).
  • Please note that all scholarship recipients’ photos will be posted on the Canadian Hospitality Foundation website (thechf.ca) and may also be used in CHF promotional materials.

Step 3:

  • All application materials can be uploaded directly to the CHF’s secure online portal.
  • If additional documents are required (e.g., video submissions or essays), detailed instructions will be provided in the portal.

Step 4:

  • Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
  • Previous recipients of CHF scholarships are not eligible.
  • Ensure you meet specific scholarship requirements (e.g., program or academic standing) and eligibility criteria as outlined in the scholarship opportunity description.

Step 5:

  • Applications are evaluated based on work experience, leadership potential, extracurricular involvement and activities, academic performance, and a demonstrated passion for hospitality.
  • Applications will be judged on the following criteria:
    • Work experience: 25 points
      Based on quality and length of work experience with extra points for industry-related experience and for increased levels of responsibility.
    • Leadership and ability to get along with others: 25 points
- Based on work, social impact and volunteer experience as well as letters of reference and responses to application questions (where applicable).
    • Extra-Curricular Activities: 20 points -
Based on demonstrated enthusiasm for the industry by participation in industry-related events and activities.
    • Educational record: 20 points – 
Based on grade point average.
    • Professional promise: 10 points – Based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions (where applicable).
  • In certain cases, shortlisted applicants may be required to participate in a virtual interview.
  • Applicants will be notified of the scholarship decision, regardless of whether their application is successful.
