David F. Clanachan

David was named the first Chairman and Commissioner of the Canadian Premier League (CPL) —Canada’s highly anticipated professional men’s soccer league which made its debut in the spring of 2019 – in January, 2018.
As Commissioner, Clanachan oversaw all aspects of the League along with the Canadian Soccer Business (CSB) —a new sports enterprise representing commercial assets and inventory for the marquee soccer properties in Canada.
Previously, Clanachan was the Chairman, Restaurant Brands International (RBI) Canada (since 2017) after being appointed President and Chief Operating Officer, Tim Hortons Canada in December 2014. Prior to that, he served as Chief Operating Officer, Tim Hortons Inc. (THI).
David joined Tim Hortons in 1992 and held various positions in the Operations Department including Vice President, Operations, Western Ontario and Executive Vice President, Training, Operations Standards and Research & Development/Supply Chain—Purchasing. In March 2008, Mr. Clanachan was appointed Chief Operations Officer, United States and International where he was accountable for the U.S. and International restaurant operations, development and growth strategy.
At the age of 14, David took interest in Tim Hortons and worked at restaurant level in all aspects of the business. He eventually went on to manage multiple restaurants while attending the University of Windsor. Mr. Clanachan is the past Chairman of the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation.
Currently, David works with a number of companies – both private and public – as a Board member and/or consultant.
He is a member of the Interac Board of Directors where he chairs the Independent Board Member Committee, Merchant Advisory Council, and Business Advisory Council. He is also a Shareholder and the Chairman of Steam Whistle Brewery, the largest craft brewery in Canada, as well as a Board member with Tilray Brands Inc – listed on the Nasdaq and the TSX.
David is involved as an advisor with Northland Group and their many food service brands as well as operating a consulting business for many known companies throughout North America.
A “serial entrepreneur” since leaving Tim Hortons, David invests in start-ups where he can advise and direct new, young companies that can create new ideas, products and growth opportunities. He also contributes his time and funding as a Board member with the Smilezone Foundation, which helps children throughout Canada by creating and building “Smilezones” in health care centre spaces for children receiving medical care.
Mr. Clanachan holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Windsor. He is married to his wife, Leslie—with five children and their Chow Chow Lulu—and resides in Burlington, Ontario.
